How
to Get Temporary Access to Online Materials For An MBA Course
Non-Haas
Graduate Students
- Most Haas faculty use Catalyst for their course
home page. And Haas uses an online service, Study.Net, instead of paper
course readers. Access to online readers is via the course’s Catalyst home
page.
- Login to Catalyst: http://catalyst.haas.berkeley.edu
using your Cal-Net
ID and Passphrase.
- If you have used Catalyst before, skip to item
#5 below.
- If you have not used Catalyst before you will be
taken to an account creation screen (see the screen shot below). Verify
the information, fill in any blank fields. When you click the “Submit"
button, you will be taken to step # 6, below (skipping step #5).
- If you already have a Catalyst account, your next
step after logging in is to click on “Courses” in the left hand bar.
- The top half of the page displays
current Haas course enrollments. This will be empty while your request
to take an MBA course is pending.
- The bottom half of the page (Your
Temporary Enrollment) contains courses for which you have requested temporary
access to online materials (also empty, at least to start with).
- To get temporary access to online
materials for an MBA course you are trying to add, click on the link located
at the bottom right-hand corner of this page. See the screen shot below.
- This takes you to a page with
a pull-down menu of the courses for which you can request temporary access
to online materials. See the screen shot below.
Please note: Selecting a course from this screen will give
you temporary access to online course materials while awaiting the outcome
of your formal request to add the course. It does not actually enroll you
in the course. The MBA Program Office will officially enroll you only if
you submit a formal request (using a paper form available from the main MBA
reception area in room S-430) by 12:00 noon on the second week of the semester,
provided the course is not full at that time.
- Once you select a course from
the pull-down menu, you will be taken to the “Courses” screen described
in item #5, above. The course you just selected will appear in the “Your
temporary enrollments” section.
- This will give you access to
the course’s home page on the Catalyst system. Just click on the course
to go to its Catalyst home page.
- If the course has an online Study.Net
reader, do the following:
i.
Click on the
Study.Net link from the left-hand bar on Catalyst.
ii.
Once you are
on the Study.Net website, you should see the course for which you have been
given temporary access listed under “My Courses”.
iii.
For MBA students,
Haas pays the cost of electronic access to online course readers. Since you
are not an MBA student, you must pay for electronic access to the online
course reader.
iv.
If you do
not get in to the course, you will be refunded a portion of what you paid
(see 8-c, below).
v.
For an extra
charge Study.Net will ship a hard-copy of the reader (known as a Textpak)
to your home address. Since your enrollment is not guaranteed and none
of the cost of the Textpak is refundable, we recommend you wait for the
final outcome of your request to take the MBA course before paying to have
a Textpak shipped to you.
- After the Add/Drop period ends, your enrollments
will be finalized.
a.
If the MBA Program is able to accommodate your request to enroll
in the course, your access to the course’s Catalyst home page will become
permanent.
b.
If the MBA Program is able to accommodate your request to enroll
in the course, and you paid for electronic access to Study.Net, your Study.Net
access will become permanent.
c.
If the MBA Program is unable to accommodate you in the course, your
temporary access to the course’s Catalyst home page will be terminated. If
you paid for electronic access to the online course reader, Study.net will
refund you 80% of what you paid.
